I am an artist and woodworker in Minnesota building furniture and home decor out of sustainably harvested wood. Along with this, I write about learning this trade and the ways that craft is medicine in our lives. Wood is not just here for our use—these trees have had their own lives, some quite long, born witness to tumult in the forests that we can only experience through words. In particular the scraps that end up in the discard pile are clamoring for their stories to be told. And that’s what I try to do in my work.
